About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: 3D-rendered image of equatorial lens fiber cells labeled with fluorescent antibodies to the connexin46 gap junction protein (red) and with a fluorescent tagged membrane label, wheat germ agglutinin (green). The large gap junction plaques on the broad sides of the fiber cells, and smaller plaques on the narrow sides, are characteristic of this peripheral region of the lens, and consistent with observed radial dye transfer patterns. A two-photon microscope was used to collect an image stack at diffraction-limited resolution which was enhanced by 3D digital deconvolution, and the resulting stack isosurface-rendered. See Jacobs et al. on page 191 of this issue.
