Cover: Nucleated cortical fiber cells in the bow region of a canine lens fluorescently immunolabeled (red fluorescence) for the cystine/glutamate antiporter, Xc-. This amino acid transporter is localized to fiber cell lateral membranes; its activity is regulated by iron and it can provide cysteine for synthesis of glutathione, an important lens antioxidant. Please see Lall et al. on page 310 of this issue.
